Meaning

The word, 'Mani' means 'jewel' and 'Pura' means 'city', It literally means, 'The city of jewels'.

It is located at the navel.

Function

This is the seat of will power and the center that brings initiative, courage, enthusiasm in life. This is also the place where selfrestraint, self-control and self-discipline come from. This is the source of samanan vayu whose function regulates digestion, assimilation and all activities of the stomach, small intestines, the pancreas, the liver, the spleen etc. It is anatomically related to the solar plexus and controls the digestive fire and heat regulation in the body. It is the center of dynamism, energy, will and achievement. Those whose consciousness is centered here are hungry for power.

Characteristics

This chakra has 10 yellow petals. The petals produce the sounds Dam, Dham, Nam, Tam, Tham, Dam, dham, Nam, Pam, Pham. for chakra activation these sounds are pronounced as Dang, Dhang, Nang, Tang, Thang, Dang, Dhang, Nang, Pang and Phang.
